On paper, it sounds good. Robert Downey Jr in a comedy lead. Zach Galifianakis co-starring, in his first major role since The Hangover. In fact, there’s even Todd Phillips, the director of The Hangover, behind the camera. Throw in the quite marvellous Michelle Monaghan in a supporting role, and Due Date should be the comedy to watch for this winter.
The problem though is that it all looks royally ripped from Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which seemed to cover this kind of ground before. That’s not to say that Due Date is without merit, it’s just the trailers and promos released for it thus far have hardly made it a must-see. This latest trailer? It’s just as guilty.
The movie arrives in November, though, so we’ve not got long to wait before finding out if there’s more to all of this than we’ve seen thus far.
