Well, DJ Erra is the latest proof that beauty and brains rarely come as package, but when they do, they come swinging. We caught the Californian between courtroom in LA and one of her high-end club events at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.....
You are a top attorney by day and a top dj by night. How are you able to combine these two passions?
A
lot of late nights and early mornings!! I get so much stimulation from
both of my careers but in different ways. I love the intellectual
stimulation I get from being an attorney. I work in criminal so it's fast
moving and a lot of thinking on your feet. There is not a lot of
preparation time because of the case load so I better be on my A game at
all times :)
Djing stimulates my emotional and free spirited
side. I love connecting with the crowd. There is nothing more
exhilarating then when you play from your heart and the crowd
reciprocates. It's like magic happens!
Has the image of the mega brainy dj helped or hurt you initially?
I
definitely think it has helped me. I think that people are a little
more interested to see who I am and what I can do. Being a lawyer is
great and being a dj is great, but the combination makes people stop and
say, "I am curious about this person."
Obviously men approach you while you are spinning at the dj booth - what is the general pick up approach and how do you react?
To
be honest, it's not as common as you might think. Usually the DJ booth
is not super accessible so there is a barrier. I get a lot of thumbs up,
business cards, and high fives and girls actually approach me more than
men. I get a lot of love from the women out there. I think when men do
approach the most common thing for them to say is "Hey I am throwing a
party- would love to have you play.. Give me your number" I usually say
give me yours and I will have my manager contact you. It totally takes
the allure out doesn't it :)
When you look around a club, which type of man sticks out in the crowd? How does he look, dress and behave?
I
do not have a type whatsoever, so I guess it's a vibe, an energy. It's
confidence. I don't like when a guy looks like he has taken longer than
me to get ready but he HAS to look put together. I have my sh*t
together.. he better have his too!
