What wouldn’t be your first thought is a girl from Cork – but things could be about to change.
Carol Anthony aka Havana is on a mission to get the nation dancing. The 27-year-old model and singer from Cork in Ireland has recently released her new single ‘Dance Like That’ which is out now and doing nicely in the dance charts. She has been a very busy girl of late singing a duet with Tony Hadley covering Spandau Ballet’s classic ‘True’ and will also be appearing in a reality show called Cokobar next month on BET TV (Sky 191 and Freesat 140).
We joined Havana for the shooting of her video in Marbella a few months ago where we got more than we bargained for. Here’s a look at the new video-
Day 1
The first day of shooting is mainly centred around the beach scene. It’s a rather hot day and I don’t envy the crew who are lugging about the equipment like troopers. People forget about the men and women behind the cameras doing all the legwork but I doff my hat in admiration to them.
I hear the song for the first time. Turns out it will be the first of probably a thousand over the course of the next few days. Havana is rolling about in the sand and singing expertly in time with the song. One thing does become apparent after a little while: there are no other women on the beach apart from Havana. Was there a diva-esque demand in clearing the entire area of any rival female competition? No. Turns out this is a gay nudist beach. Every now and again a wrinkly naked man would pop up from the dunes like an inquisitive meerkat flustered by all the commotion!
The sun begins to set and the final scenes are shot. We leave the naked gay men of Marbella in peace.
Day 2
Shooting today takes place in a lovely mansion where the neighbors include Mariah Carey, Tina Turner and Prince; which must come in handy if you’re throwing a karaoke party.
Havana is mainly getting the shots for the pool. However, even though it is a lovely sunny day the water is freezing, but she just gets on with it and makes sure the director gets everything he needs. I dipped my toe in the water and stumbled off like Keyser Soze!
Later in the day they started shooting the pool party scenes. Around 20 odd models arrived for this. Just how Havana rolls. After many takes by the pool day was turning into night. Minding my own business observing intently the director came over and asked if I would like to be in the video. I naturally said yes and took my spot near the back, quite far away from the camera but very pleased to be involved.
There’s quite a lot of waiting about on video shoots. I decided to pass the time by chatting to one or two of the models in between takes. Not for me you understand, but for my craft and character! I needed to know what this enigmatic man by the pool thought and how he moved. This must have worked as myself and a few other girls were asked to come closer to camera and bring our A game right to the front. If Harvey Weinstein or Steven Spielberg are on the look out for the next big movie star their search is over. 2 min and 27 seconds (for about a second) into the video to be precise.
The last scenes by the pool are shot. Havana and her on screen romance do the deadly dance of love for the cameras and that’s a wrap. The countless hours of scenes and takes are then edited and cut and just like magic and you can watch the final result right here below.
