Your abs are among the most versatile muscles in your body because they work in several directions at once. This comes in handy when changing direction quickly on the sports field or just twisting to get out of the way of a badly driven bus.
Unfortunately, it also makes your core muscles slightly awkward to train – you can’t reach your full six-pack potential with straight crunches alone. The following workout asks your midsection to work in an unstable environment, forcing the muscles to work throughout their range of motion and improving your ability to control them. Do the following routine three times a week, leaving at least a day between each workout, and you’ll feel your abs getting stronger.
This workout will also prepare your abs for the weight-moving routine in next month’s issue, which will build the muscle mass you’ll need for a great six-pack.
