Low-fat milkshake
Milk will help you nod off because it contains tryptophan, which crosses into the brain and turns into serotonin, the chemical that makes you feel sleepy.
Microwave pasta
Heat up a bowl of instant pasta and sauce in the microwave. (To help you identify it after six bottles of wine, it’s the big boxy object in your kitchen that isn’t a cupboard.) The carbs will help prevent low blood sugar in the morning and also helps tryptophan cross from the blood into the brain. Dolmio sauces are nice.
Doner kebab
Only joking. Sorry.
Emergency!
Still hungry after your micro-meal? These drunk-friendly options won’t pile on the calories. Eat them while calling your ex at 3am to suggest a reunion
Cereal bar
Damage limitation is a tricky idea to grasp when you can’t even remember how trousers work – but choose a healthier cereal bar over a chocolate bar.
Quavers
If you crave something savoury, a packet of Quavers has fewer than 100 calories, compared with more than 500 in a big bag of Kettle Chips.
Bottle of water
Keep it by the bed so it’s close to hand when you wake up. Note: the hydrating effect is better if you remember to remove the lid.
