I spend a lot of time running and cycling and don’t have time to go to the gym as well, but I know I need to build core strength. Is there something I can do in the saddle or when running to help?

Matt Hart answers: Not really. You should focus on your form when running or cycling, rather than worrying about other things. But there is a way to get better core strength without going to a gym or doing an extra workout. Whenever you have a free minute – you can do this in front of the TV – try getting into a press-up position but resting on your elbows and hold. This is known as the plank and doing it regularly will improve core stability. Another thing that won’t take long is a set of press-ups before bed. This will build core strength and it’s over in a flash. Build up to two sets over time.
