Everyone goes on about getting five portions of fruit and veg a day. But what constitutes a portion?
R Benton, Staffs.
Sarah Schenker from the British Nutrition Foundation replies:
When people talk about 5 portions per day, one portion roughly equates to 80g. The portion sizes below are taken from the government's food-portion size book.
3 heaped tbsp peas
1 tall glass OJ2 satsumas
1/2 large courgette
1 medium apple
1 medium banana
2 spears broccoli
4 heaped tbsp beans
3tbsp carrots
1/2 large grapefruit
1tbsp raisins
1 cereal bowl spinach
