Ella Winter, Cannons retreat manager replies: Saunas are a great way to help you unwind after a workout as the dry heat relaxes tired muscles and helps flush out toxins and impurities such as lactic acid that has built up during exercise. The steam will also cleanse the skin by opening the pores.
You should only spend about five to ten minutes in the sauna at any one time. You can do several sessions but make sure you cool down in between and stay hydrated. If you don't want to keep getting out the sauna, there's always the steam room, which gives the same benefits as a sauna but with wet heat. You can stay in there for up to 20 minutes. Saunas are not suitable if you suffer from heart problems, high blood pressure or epilepsy.
