Personal Trainer Matt Roberts replies: It is generally accepted that you can't spot-burn fat because the process of drawing fat into your blood is done as part of your overall circulatory system's normal activity, meaning your body is non-specific about where it gets it from.
Working the stomach area harder to try and reduce fat is sadly a waste of time. You can work your abs until you're blue (or red) in the face and still not see your six-pack if you have fat over the top of it.
Burn your fat from all over by using a mixture of large muscle group exercises and by doing intense cardio work. Work your abs hard to make sure they're strong, but don't think that it will shift the Michelin from around your waist!
