This weekend provides welcome relief for 16 teams from their league duties as they prepare for some FA Cup action and try to take one step closer to realising their dream of lifting the most prestigious domestic cup in world football.
Only nine out of the 16 teams ply their trade in the Premier League and there is a good chance that at least one match will end up in an upset.
Struggling Stoke City travel to in-form League Two side Crawley Town in what could be a potential banana skin for the Premier League team as they take on the lowest-ranked side left in the competition.
League One side Stevenage host the highest-ranked left team in the contest – Tottenham – and will be hoping to get under Spurs' skin and cause what would be the biggest shock of the round.
Chelsea have a chance to get back to winning ways as they take on free-scoring Birmingham City at Stamford Bridge. Andre Villas Boas' side have really struggled for form of late and they will be well aware that the Blues are unbeaten in ten matches in The Championship and could cause them another embarrassing defeat.
Norwich City are, perhaps surprisingly, not heavy favourites to beat Leicester City at Carrow Road on Saturday considering their excellent Premier League form of late. Paul Lambert is not the type of manager to accept a bad performance from his side, even if he may contemplate resting some players for the Foxes’ visit.
Saturday Tip
Norwich vs Leicester
Norwich host an inconsistent Leicester side on Saturday and will be keen to make progress and continue on their run towards Wembley. An appearance in the FA Cup final for the Canaries doesn't seem too far-fetched right now; which is remarkable considering they were playing in League One just two seasons ago.
Norwich's home form hasn't been the best in the Premier League recently so it is likely that Paul Lambert will send out a near-full strength side to take on Leicester and perhaps gain some confidence from a win at Carrow Road.
Leicester's inconsistency is highlighted by the results in their previous nine Championship games; they’ve won three, drawn three and lost three. Currently languishing in mid-table it seems unlikely that the Foxes will go on a good enough run to even challenge for the play-offs.
I fancy Norwich to win this match pretty comfortably and will be backing them in the Handicap market . This is a four-star bet.
Tip: Bet 4 points on Norwich -1 (Handicap) at 5/2 with BetVictor or Coral
Sunday Tip
Crawley Town vs Stoke
Crawley host Stoke in an intriguing encounter that pits an in-form League Two side against a Premier League side struggling for form.
Crawley, flash with cash, are on a relentless run up the leagues and look a good shout to gain their second promotion in as many seasons. The top of League Two is very tight but the south-east side’s experience of a promotion run-in should stand them in good stead.
On the other hand, Stoke have really struggled since the turn of the year and can't seem to find a win from anywhere. Of course siding against a Premier League side against League Two opposition is risky, but this match looks like a good opportunity to make some profit by backing the hosts.
Because of the big risk involved, I recommend just a small bet on Crawley.
Tip: Bet 1 point on Crawley draw no bet at 7/4 with 888 Sport or Blue Square
