After netting squillions of goals in Manchester red and costing your team a record-breaking £80million, you can be excused for being a bit excited about your club's latest acquisition. A near-full Bernabeu stadium saw 80,000 Real Madrid fans turn out just to meet their new man, Cristiano Ronaldo, on 6 July, with a subsequent pitch invasion from those demanding some extra Ronny love.
However, it wasn't just Ronaldo getting a hero's welcome. Manchester City benchwarmer and forgotten England bod, Darius Vassell, signed for Turkish outfit Ankara on 30 June, 2009. He was literally mobbed at the airport by thousands of delirious fans, many brandishing Vassell banners, while cars excitedly tooted in packed-out streets.
Back home, English fans were scratching their heads in utter confusion. This really is Darius Vassell, right? The same non-scoring forward who netted a piddly 17 goals in 103 Man City appearances, and who cost his new side a whopping £0.00 (plus wages and signing-on fees)?
Check out the two videos below and tell us who you think got the grander reception. Either way you look at it, though, they're both pretty bonkers...
