1. The Clarets were founder members of the football league in 1882, but last tasted top-flight football back in 1976. That year they were relegated with Sheffield United and Wolves. Coincidentally, Wolves are going up with them this year, while Sheffield lost out to Burnley in the play-ff final.
2. The club have played at Turf Moor since 1883. It’s an ace, old-school ground: tucked right into the community with houses all around and several pubs within walking distance. Like how football used to be.
3. Turf Moor holds 22,546 – second smallest capacity in the Premiership only to Portsmouth (20,688), another local club in the heart of the community.
4. Burnley's last great year in the top flight was 1974: they finished 6th in the old First Division, and made it to the semi-final of the FA Cup.
5. Burnley began this year's promotion campaign disastrously: they lost 4-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday, then lost at home 3-0 to Ipswich.
6. In the early years Burnley played in various kits of blue and white - even testing out a funky black-and-amber kit before settling on the famous claret-and-blue in 1910. Next season the club are going to wear a similar kit to the one they won the First Division with in 1960.
7. Former Burnley players with excellent names include Albert Cheesebrough, Harry Potts and Brian Pilkington. Leighton James, Willie Morgan, Brian Flynn and Martin Dobson all played for Burnley.
8. Burnley are one of only three clubs to win the Championship of all four of the old Divisions. The other clubs are Wolves and Preston North End.
9. Burnley’s population (73,500) could comfortably fit into Wembley and Old Trafford (76,212)
10. Nearest Premiership rivals will be Blackburn (11 miles away). The clubs haven't been in the same division since 1982, but still see each other as arch rivals. They last played each other in March 2005 in the FA Cup
