Works in Denmark (and occasionally the UK) as a television presenter. Made 292 appearances for United and was twice voted World’s Best Goal Keeper. Schmeichel also scored 11 goals during his career.

Currently works as goal keeping coach at Derby County. Made 50 appearances for United, where he made his first team debut at 19, replacing Gary Bailey.
Clayton Blackmore, DF, (14)
Manages Welsh club Neath. Played in every position bar goal for United, making 251 career appearances. Was still turning out for non-league football at 42.
Steve Bruce, DF, (50)
In his second spell as manager of Wigan. Made 309 appearances for Manchester United but, curiously, was never once selected for England.
Denis Irwin, DF, (48)
Works as a presenter for Manchester United TV. Turned out 368 times for United. Irwin also excelled at hurling and Gaelic football as a schoolboy.
Lee Martin, DF, (2)
Works helping young people get apprenticeships and work in West Cheshire. Made 73 appearances for United, and scored just two goals – one of which won the 1990 FA Cup replay against Crystal Palace.

Still playing for Manchester United. Local Manchester lad has turned out 379 times for his only club. Was the youngest first team player at Euro 96 – at just 21.
Gary Pallister, DF, (50)
Mainly works as a football pundit. 317 appearances for United. Pallister was the record English transfer fee between English clubs when he moved to United from Middlesbrough in 1989 for £2.3 million.
Paul Parker, DF, (36)
Works as commentator for Setanta's sports Blue Square Premier coverage. Made 105 appearances for United, and had long stints at Fulham and QPR. Career blighted by injury.
David Beckham, MF, (1 as sub)
Whereabouts unknown. Made 265 appearances for United. Fact: was loaned out to Preston North End for five games in 1995, where he scored two goals.
Nicky Butt, MF, (1 as sub)
Still turning out for Newcastle United. Made 269 appearances for United. Butt was named Best Player in the Tournament for World Cup 2002 by Pele.
Darren Ferguson, MF, (15)
Is manager of newly promoted Peterborough United. Made only 27 appearances for United before dropping down the leagues and turning out for Wolves and Wrexham.
Ryan Giggs, MF, (45)
Still playing for Manchester United, with over 560 appearances. The most decorated player in English football history, Giggs actually started out on Manchester City’s books.
Keith Gillespie, MF, (1)
Is on the books at Bradford City. Only turned out nine times for United. Gillespie holds the record for fastest sending off of a substitute – 12 seconds – being sent off as he came on for Sheffield United in 2007.
Paul Ince, MF, (47)
Sacked after seventeen games as manager of Blackburn Rovers this season. Made 209 appearances for United. Famously photographed in a Man Utd kit before his transfer from West Ham had been completed.
Andrei Kanchelskis, MF, (18)
In 2007, Kanchelskis became the sporting director of Russian club FC Nosta Novotroitsk. Turned out 123 times for United, and Kanchelskis is the only player in history to have scored in each of the Glasgow, Merseyside and Manchester local derbies.
Mike Phelan, MF, (8)
Was appointed Assistant Manager of Manchester United on 3 September 2008. Made 102 appearances for United. Won one cap for England and was voted into Norwich City’s Hall of Fame in 2002.
Bryan Robson, MF, (6)
Since being sacked as manager of Sheffield United has worked as an ambassador for Manchester United. Captain Marvel made 345 appearances for United and won 90 England caps. Earned £28 a week on his debut as a professional with West Brom in 1973-74.
Lee Sharpe, MF, (30)
Reality TV performer and after dinner speaker. Made 193 appearances for United but career was dogged by injury and Sharpe was over shone by Ryan Giggs.
Neil Webb, MF, (1)
Following a stint as a postman now works with Charlton Athletic as a coach. 45 appearances for United, Webb was the 1000th player capped for England.
Eric Cantona, FW, (22)
Actor, philosopher and all-round legend. Made 145 appearances for United and was the star of a recent Ken Loach film.
Dion Dublin, FW, (3)
Dublin has worked in the media as a pundit for Sky Sports. As well as appearing on Ford Super Sunday with Richard Keys. Only made 12 appearances for United, but shone at Cambridge United, Coventry and Aston Villa. His dad was in Showaddywaddy.
Mark Hughes, FW, (48)
Is currently manager of Manchester City. Sparky made 348 appearances for Man U. in two stints split up with spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Scored on his debut in 1983.
Brian McClair, FW, (49)
Director of Manchester United's youth academy at which McClair's son, Liam is currently a midfield player. A solid 355 appearances for United, Choccy, as he was known (Choccy Éclair, geddit?) is also a qualified chartered accountant.
Danny Wallace, FW, (2)
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis Wallace was forced to retire from football in 1996. In 2006 Danny completed the 26.2-mile London Marathon in five-and-a-half days. His goal in completing the marathon was to raise money for the Danny Wallace Foundation, which provides aid for those suffering from multiple sclerosis.
