In between a busy schedule of shooting the Christmas Special of the phenomenal "reality" TV show The Only Way Is Essex, recording their festive single we took time to have a little chat with TOWIE’s Mario about love, life and basketball and of course... groupies.
MAXIM: Hey Mario, how’s it going?!
MARIO: Hey! Nice to catch up with you guys, I’ve been absolutely manic, ridiculously busy promoting adiSlam and the TOWIE Xmas special.
MAXIM: adiSlam sounds fab. How did you get involved and what’s it been like working with RWD and adidas?
MARIO: My best mate works with Street Team, so he thought it would be good to get me involved what with my new found TOWIE status! It’s been really cool working with RWD & adidas, I was really happy to do something a bit more urban, I love the music! I’ve been really involved in the promotion of the event, done a few viral videos and an amazing photoshoot which was super fun!
MAXIM: Any excuse to pose eh?
MARIO: Haha, definitely.
MAXIM: Great stuff, we can’t wait to come down to the event on the 18th! Who do you think has the capability to win the tournament?
MARIO: To be honest all the teams are really strong! But of course, I’m playing on the RWD team so I hope we win, I’ll be Twitter gloating for sure.
MAXIM: Haha, we’re quite partial to a bit of twitter gloating! Seriously, follow us and see. Since joining TOWIE how has your life changed? We’re pretty sure you get a lot more female attention now…
MARIO: Oh gosh, totally! For me, it was a real case of overnight fame so has been completely overwhelming. Every single public appearance I do there’s a tonne of mental girls screaming my name. Ridiculous!
MAXIM: Tell us about your 1st groupie/fan experience?
MARIO: Ah, it was funny but so stressful at the same time! I’d just joined the new series of TOWIE, and decided to go Sugar Hut for the first time since the show had been aired. It would usually take approximately 6-7mins to get from my table to the toilet and back again - It took an hour and a half! There were girls literally throwing condoms at me, screaming and crying it was absolutely surreal. I didn’t realise how big the show had got.
MAXIM: Condoms? Are you serious?!
MARIO: Yes! I couldn’t believe it either, but now it’s almost like a regular occurance.
MAXIM: What’s the most outrageous gesture a groupie has ever done?
MARIO: It made me really uncomfortable haha! A Ballet teacher got all the ballerinas to do the splits with me in the middle for a photo, they were all in these really teeny weeny leotards. I didn’t know where to look!
MAXIM: Out of all the lads on TOWIE (you, Mark, Arg, Joey & Kirk) who gets the most groupie attention?
MARIO: Definitely Joey. He’s just such a great guy and it really comes across in the show so everybody loves him! Nobody ever has a bad word to say about him, I think that definitely adds to his sex appeal.
MAXIM: Speaking of Mark, did you watch him in the jungle?
MARIO: Yeah, I did! I watched the whole series in fact, not because of Mark though to be honest. Dougie Poynter is my sister’s fiancé, he’s had a really tough year so it was nice to see him happy and to support him.
MAXIM: TOWIE is back for an Xmas special, what can we expect?
MARIO: Just absolute jokes! I personally think it’s the funniest footage that we’ve ever shot on TOWIE, we went away for the filming so we all genuinely had a smashing time filming it.
MAXIM: Where did you go to film?
MARIO: Can’t say! Just make sure you guys look out for the special, it’s... special!
MAXIM: Out of Sam, Lucy & Lauren G who would you; snog, marry or avoid?
MARIO: Oh wow, erm…I’d snog Sam, Marry Lucy and AVOID Lauren!
MAXIM: Hahahaha! Don’t you like Lauren?
MARIO: Lauren’s a lovely girl, but she’s not my type. If I went there it would just be to be malicious towards Lucy for the past and I’m not that type of person at all. Don’t get me wrong though, if Lucy ever did something like that ever again I would be knocking straight at Lauren’s door!
MAXIM: Oh dear.
