*JOE CALZAGHE: UNDEFEATED IS OUT TO OWN ON DVD NOW*
You’ve had a pretty decent career to say the least. Who’d you like to play you in a movie biopic of your life?
Ah, you’ve caught me off guard there.
Well that’s more than all your opponents have managed in 20 years of boxing! Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
Yes.
So go on then, who’d make a good ‘you’ in a film?
Someone dark obviously. Maybe I’d play myself. I want to go into acting actually, so I’d play myself.
Really? You want to be an actor?
Yeah, that’s definitely one of the things I’d like to do. There’s been a few small offers mentioned, maybe I’ll get a screentest and do some action lessons. I’d like to star in action films.
So you want to be an action hero like Jason Statham?
Haha, I don’t know about an action hero.
Would you do your own stunts?
I dunno man, I wasn’t expecting these questions! I don’t like heights, so nothing where I’d be falling off buildings. But anything else would be okay. I could do the fight scenes.
Did you see the recent pictures of Naseem Hamed? He looks like he’s been guzzling the pies. What do you make of that?
I’ve not seen them. To be honest, Hamed was a great fighter at the time. Me personally, I like to keep in shape, I don’t like to put on pounds. But it’s each to their own. Hamed can do what he wants.
Are you missing boxing since retiring?
No. I was happy to retire undefeated, everything has its moment in history. I’ve got great kids now and it’s time to move onto my next challenge in life.
How about that next challenge being going into wrestling and joining the WWE?
No, haha. I’m only 6ft, weight about 13 or 14 stone, I’m a little bit small for a wrestler. I don’t think I could handle that. They’d probably all crush me!
UFC, then?
I enjoy it, but I don’t think I’d be any good at it. I’m a boxer, I can’t use my feet.
You say that, but you’ve just been on that dancing programme, Strictly Come Dancing. How does dancing in front of a live audience compare to strutting down the runway to a big fight?
Funnily enough, it’s more nervewracking dancing than boxing! I enjoyed the experience though, it’s a once in a lifetime thing.
Have you been using your new moves to impress on dancefloors and in nightclubs?
No, to be honest, I’ve not had a chance yet. I’ve been pretty busy since I came out of the show, but I probably will do Christmas time!
