Antichrist

Maxim Chats to Willem Dafoe

In previous films, Willem Dafoe has been gunned down in 'Nam, killed by Spider-Man and frazzled as a vampire. But nothing compares to what he endures in Antichrist...

ANTICHRIST, out at cinemas from 24 July

Starring: Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg

Director: Danish arthouse king Lars Von Trier (Breaking The Waves, The Idiots)

Willem Dafoe's mind and body endure a rough ride during Lars Von Trier's uncompromising 'chiller'. Without spoiling too much of the FIST-IN-MOUTH TERROR, let's just say there's a lot of family tragedy, some mutilation in the trousers department, and a very inventive way of rendering someone immobile.

But let's get one thing straight: Antichrist is a million miles from torture porn horrors such as Hostel and Saw. It's even a little walk on from Japan's brilliant but brutal sado-romance Audition. It's perhaps unlike anything you'll have ever seen, but it'll almost certainly be the UNEASIEST slab of cinema you'll ever likely cast your distraught beedies over. Whether it's actually possible to truly 'enjoy' it, that's another question, but it's something its lead star, Hollywood LEGEND Willem Dafoe, was open to discuss - especially as it had put one of our girlfriends "OFF SEX FOR 40 YEARS"...!

"Buy her some flowers," he suggested after our cameras had stopped rolling... Cheers, Willem. It didn't work, though.
