You’re in straight-to-DVD sequel, Lost Boys 2: The Tribe. Is it better than the original?
Oh, I’d never say that – that was a classic. This has the same temperament and themes but it brings it into a much more contemporary setting. It’s a bit edgier, with more extreme vampires and more nudity.
Back in the day, who got more action – you or Corey Haim?
He did, mostly because he was such a pretty boy and I was the awkward one. I was actually very insecure back then, and couldn’t understand it when I saw myself in a teen magazine or when girls had posters of me. But in the end – because I take good care of myself and he ended up getting a bit fat – I think the tables may have turned.
Did you ever come to blows?
Sure. We were like brothers, and still are. There were good days and bad days, so there was always confrontation. When we were filming Blown Away, we had to stage a fight and at the time, I’d got pretty big and didn’t know my own strength. When we filmed the scene, I got too close and swiped him very gently in the face, enough to knock him back behind the couch. He had a big shiner and things were a bit tense for the next couple of weeks.
Do you still speak to Chunk from The Goonies?
Chunk Cohen? As a matter of fact I do. He is now an upstanding attorney in the world of entertainment. We’ve actually done some business together. He’s lost all that weight and become quite a handsome man.
Have you ever seen anyone do a better truffle shuffle?
No, but I’ve certainly seen a lot of people try. You’d be amazed at how many times I’ve been walking down the street and some fat guy has come up to me and said, ‘Hey look, I can do the truffle shuffle!’ None of them are as good as Chunk, though.
What was the guy who played Sloth like in real life?
John Matuszak – he was great. He was a big, brooding oaf of a guy, but he was very sweet with the kids. Unfortunately, he turned into an alcoholic. It led to his demise, but he was a sweet man.
Who’s the craziest fan you’ve encountered?
I suppose it would be my wife, Susie. I knew she was a fan but after a few months, she told me that when she was five she’d written in her diary, ‘I want to have sex with Corey Feldman.’ Her dad found it and asked her why she wrote it. She just repeated, ‘I want to have sex with Corey Feldman!’ That’s kinda crazy, huh?Lost Boys 2: The Tribe is out now on DVD, courtesy of Warner Home Video, priced £15.99
