Once sole purveyors of the underground music scene in the UK, RWD magazine are about to turn 10 years old. To celebrate they have teamed up with loyal supporters Adidas to exhibit ground breaking images that document the rise of UK Garage, Grime and Dubstep on 15-21st October at Shoreditch Underground.
Helping new artists to break through has always been key for RWD magazine, to reflect that the exhibition will feature many of those ‘firsts’ including cutting edge photography of artists including Dizzee Rascal, N-Dubz, Skream, Professor Green, Tinie Tempah, Wiley and many more.
As well as an outstanding display of exclusive never seen before photography, Shoreditch Underground will also house a custom built installation housing video footage documenting underground music and culture over the past decade. Music videos, infamous pirate radio clashes, as well as exclusive interviews with some of the music stars RWD were the first to cover. The likes of Ms. Dynamite, Wretch 32, and Roll Deep will be giving their views on the rise of the scenes they struggled to create.
Alongside the exhibition RWD and Adidas have also set up an interactive website www.DECA10.com where there will be snippets of exclusive interviews and a chance for users to share their views/memories on the rise of underground music over the years. The DECA10 website will be a throwback to the initial RWD Forum which was ahead of it’s time by being a place where readers could interact directly with artists - the likes of Wiley were regulars on the site before its closure in 2007.
The DECA celebrations mark a huge achievement for RWD and not only do they represent the growth of the magazine but also the fact that underground music has firmly etched itself into modern cultural history.
