The Warrior
Top Ten Finishing Moves

Tom Hardy’s flooring MMA machines left, right and centre in this week’s Warrior. In homage to Britain’s newest badass, we look at the finest finishing moves in film, EVER.

Ong Bak

After having his money nabbed by the sticky-fingered George, Ting heads to the underground fight club to get it back; on his arrival he accidently enters into a fight with a fighter named “Big Bear”. Ting is reluctant to fight, having made promises to his teacher never to use it for his own gain, but Big Bear taunts him by brutally beating a Thai man and assaulting one of the waitresses. Eventually Ting realises he must fight and assumes the Muay Thai stance. Played by martial arts expert Tony Jaa, Ting’s first and last blow is enough to shut Big Bear’s flapping mouth.

The Dark Knight

Health Leger’s Joker was a disturbing and terrifying one. The Joker etches his role in the film as an agent of terror and chaos with little other motives. Despite this, he is not unable to appreciate comedy, albeit at the expensive of a mob boss’s henchman. The others in the ‘group therapy session’ are then forced to listen to his proposition because he has enough explosives under his coat to turn a penthouse into a bungalow.

Tommy is an ex-marine with a tragic past and broken family. On returning to his hometown of Pittsburgh he drops in on his father – a recovering alcoholic and Tommy’s old trainer. While visiting a local gym Tommy steps into the ring to prove his worth, much to the doubt of the professional MMA fighters present. But moments later his smirking opponent finds he has little to laugh about...

The Matrix Reloaded

A finishing kick, punch or throw is normally quite satisfying to watch, but nothing compares to seeing a man launch into the air to leaving , literally, a crowd of assailants scattered below.
When there is an endless supply of opponents, neo is forced to be inventive; first using a metal pole to beat off the agents and then after becoming victim to a particularly childish game of ‘bundle’ he does one of the most phenomenal finishing moves in film history.

Ali

Will Smith plays Mohammed Ali past his prime, fighting the younger favourite George Foreman. The film imitates the real fight almost exactly; in the 8th round Ali knocks Foreman onto his back with a flurry of fast punches to the face. The stadium is in silence then erupts when Ali is declared winner.

300

Leonidas does not take well to insults and the threatening of his people. In one of the coolest deaths anyone could ask for, the Persian messenger meets his end at the peril of Spartan pride and the ruthless end of Leonidas’s foot.

Spiderman

After the recent discovery of his powers, Peter falls into a spot of bother with someone at school. Not accustomed to violence, he initially tries to evade the punches thrown at him. However, when he finds himself facing two opponents instead of one he has no choice but to get the guy – far - out of his way.

Snatch

Poor gorgeous George didn’t know what he was getting in for when he agreed to fight Mickey. After going to the gypsy’s campsite to buy a caravan; George found himself being challenged to fight with the bare-knuckle boxing champion. After seriously injuring George with a single punch, Tommy is left alone in the barn with the atmosphere turning sour.

Adulthood

Petty criminals Omen and Dabs agree to commit murder for 6 thousand pounds. When they find and tackle the hooded target, Omen turns the man round to see his face and realises that he has been set up by his friend to kill his brother Sam who has just been released from prison. A heated argument erupts, ending in a spectacular one punch knockout.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes proves that an extensive knowledge of biology can be quite useful in a fight, although it probably helps to know a bit of boxing too. Here is seen using the Martial Art of Baritsu, the ‘gentleman’s’ fighting style that Holmes is most commonly associated with. His finishing blow is a devastating kick to the solar plexus. Physical recovery 6 weeks; psychological recovery 6 months.
