Charles Turner was the first EVER bowler to take 250 wickets in an English season, a feat only since managed by Tom Richardson, J.T. Hearne, Wilfred Rhoes and Tich Freeman.
As your stereotypical Englishmen, we have few pleasures in life. Football, beer, women and cricket. Possibly a few other things, like cumpets and tea, perhaps even some polo at the weekends, but all in all, it's tough being an Englishman. Especially when a feat such as the aforementioned 250 wickets in a season is made by an Aussie.
We hang our heads. OH THE SHAME!
But then we raise them again. Cricket is the game that brings everyone together. And we invented it! We challenge you to present us with a boring gathering that wasn't saved with a game of cricket. On top of that, Turner wasn't the only one to manage said feat. Tom Richardson, John Hearne, Wilfred Rhode and Tich Freeman were all English, with Freeman himself managing the impossible SIX TIMES.
Let's see the Aussies top that one.
That's what we thought. Better throw another shrimp on the barbie!
