The (Even) Longer Cut?

Not content with putting two and a half hours of blue people on the big screen, this morning's Hollywood Reporter is disclosing that James Cameron is keen to re-release Avatar in cinemas over the summer, with up to an extra 40 minutes of footage spliced in.

With Alice In Wonderland eating up most of Avatar’s 3D screens, the weekly box office take from the film has started to slow substantially (although there’s still over bn in the bank worldwide). Furthermore, the DVD release is expected in April, when another boatload of cash will be sailing off to James Cameron-land.

Cameron though is reportedly toying with a few options. If he adds back around 10 minutes, then the film can still play on IMAX screens as well as 3D ones (there’s a limited to how long a film can be if it’s playing in IMAX). But he might just go hell for leather and go for the longer version, and get it back out in 3D.

He’s probably short of a few quid, to be fair…
