Martin Bashir's interviews are famous for being with very famous people: Michael Jackson and Princess Diana just two of the mega-names to fall under his soft-soap spell. With Princess Diana it was, like all things with her, a neat bit of PR. Charles had already admitted to an affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Di needed her airtime.
In the end we got the full monty: bulimia, sex, her unhappy situation at Buck House. Of Hewitt the Princess said she was 'in love with him but felt very let down.' Rumours that Hewitt is the father to Prince Harry have absolutely no basis in fact, it's just that they both have red hair and people think they look similar.
The marriage to Prince Charles ended a year after the interview. Diana got £17 million, plus £350,000 a year to run her office. She died 31st August 1997.
