It was from a bombed-out 14 Savile Row, just after World War 2, that Amies first made his name as couturier to the Queen. During the 60s he made the Hepworths store hip (it’s now known as Next), and even the 1966 England squad kitted themselves out in Amies-designed Hepworths threads – that’s off the pitch, of course.
The new collection has all the trademarks you’d expect from a man who said a gent should look ‘like he has chosen his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten about them’. The new suits are cut sharp and sexy, while Prince of Wales checks, tweeds, flannels and chalk-stripes all feature strongly. We strongly recommend the short raincoat for a touch of Ipcress File Michael Caine smartness.
