The King of Fluoro Trackies has come up with a mini collection for the World Cup.
Kim Jones’s designs for Umbro draw on true terrace-chic and feature slim-fitting polos, tees and hoodies in red, white and blue. Tops reference the Cross of St George and the famous Umbro logo. There’s also a reversible take on the classic ‘Ramsay’ jacket of ’66 but, whatever you do, don’t mention the war (even though Umbro made shirts for the armed forces back in 1940).
The company was founded in 1920, in Wilmslow, Cheshire, by Harold C Humphreys. His brother joined him four years later, and the Umbro name was born – the ‘um’ bit is from their surname and the ‘bro’ bit is from their being bros.
To top it off, the Umbro by Kim Jones World Cup package includes a kit bag and match ball – with stylised English-rose print. But if you decide to use it in an impromptu kickabout, don’t use your Kim Jones top as a goalpost. It’s just uncouth.
