Belstaff has been looking like a proper international tour de force recently, developing a rep far beyond waxed motorcycle jackets. Now it’s taken up residency in the London shopping glamour zone, Mayfair, with a new flagship store in Conduit Street (already home to Vivienne and Mosch).
Two floors house the ‘Aviator’, ‘Black Prince’ and ‘Belstaff’ collections, plus kids’ and women’s wear.
The ‘Aviator’ line is based on original flyers’ outfits of the 30s and 40s, and features pieces made of materials authentic to the era. Because of this attention to detail and authenticity, Miramax chose ‘Aviator by Belstaff’ for many of the costumes in the film The Aviator.
From the ‘Country Driving’ collection, tweeds are cut into cunning modernity and delivered in tones inspired by the British countryside. The ’Staff was originally a British thing – we think it’s rather lovely that the prodigal spun (you know, like propellor blades or something) has come home.
