The original Baracuta ‘G9’ sports jacket, with red tartan lining, was born in a Manchester factory in 1937. Baracuta made coats for Bobby Moore and the rest of the ’66 team, as well as Steve McQueen, Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Mods in the 60s used to queue outside The Ivy Shop in Richmond to buy theirs. Rude Boys in the 70s and early 80s wore the jackets with Fred Perry shirts and Sta-Prest trousers, inspired by The Specials and Madness. Today’s ‘G9’ comes in hues of lime, yellow, sky blue and even tartan, as well as the classic stone colour, worn by Thierry Henry in his last Renault ad. Ivy League has never looked so sweet and simple.
