Lewis Leathers has been making motor, aviation and motorcycling gear since 1892. The punk explosion of ’76 saw punks create their own rebellious fashions, and the multi-zipped Lewis Leather jackets contributed to their defiant uniform. Paul Simonon (pictured) and Joe Strummer of The Clash spearheaded the biker fashion. Simonon also wore motorcycle goggles that he’d bought from the old Lewis Leathers shop. The Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and Joey Ramone of The Ramones were also fans of the ‘Lightning’ jacket style.
Contemporary pieces include lightweight leathers. They give you the right look – rather than the right protection – for when you’re sliding under juggernauts. The new jeans line is made in Okayama, Japan, also known as ‘Denim Town’. The 14oz vintage-wash denims with trim details are cut to the same style that the brand originally made in the 50s.
