Eye Bags and Dark Circles
Can they be busted?

As we age, busting puffy eyes and fine eyes is a complete bastard. But all is not totally lost...

Unlike some people, I was quite excited about recently turning 30. The only negative aspect of beginning a whole new decade is that my eyes seem to have purchased some new luggage, and not little manbags either, but proper suitcases with wheels.

Basically, the skin around your eyes is roughly 10 times thinner than the rest of your skin, and it's also completely useless, meaning it doesn't do anything. And as you age, it does even less, and the circulation round there almost screeches to a standstill.

Unfortunately, eyebags are hereditary. If your parents suffer from them, chances are you will too. But you can at least IMPROVE the situation. Eyebags ultimately are the result of dehydrated skin. When your skin is shot of water, it tries to retain liquid, so stores fluid beneath your eyes, leading to unsightly puffiness and dark circles.

Now I drink 2-litres of water a day, but while that might rehydrate my body, my face is in the firing line of the ramped-up-high OFFICE AIR CONDITIONER and AIR POLLUTION. It's these total bastards which dehydrate your skin. So, as well as trying out these nifty products below, I'd also advise a really good HYDRATING MOISTURISER to apply to the rest of your face, DAY AND NIGHT. That way your face will have a shield against those nasty air conditioning units. The bastards. Arggggh.

But before, you check out the below, there's TWO KEY THINGS YOU NEED TO REMEMBER WITH EYEBAG/DARK CIRCLE CREAMS:

1) You MUST use them for at least FOUR WEEKS, day and night, before you see any results

2) NO creams or potions will cure the problem. They'll just make it less worse. Which isn't so bad, is it...?

Lab Series Age Rescue Eye Therapy, 15ml, £24.47

A spectacularly silky and lightweight eye cream that sinks into your skin like a dream. This incorporates an anti-ageing recipe, designed to attack lines and wrinkles, as well as dark circles and puffiness.

Basically, it's the one I'm testdriving at the moment. Come back in a few more weeks and I should have a shedload more to say...

Lab Series Instant Moisture Eye Gel, 7.5ml, £21.53

Applied with a roll-on to encourage improved circulation, this is like having your eyes zapped with some godly WIDE-A-WAKE love. It's a bolt of instant moisture, but although it feels beautifully soothing, it'll still be a few weeks before its dehydrating properties will properly beat down that unsightly bagginess.

A top, top product, though. Especially for anyone who's permanently seated below the office air conditioning. I.e. me.

Clinique Age Defense for Eyes, 15ml, £22

A brand new addition to the excellent Clinique range (out in October), this is a lightweight cream that delivers an intense burst of moisture to the eye area. As well as instant hydration, it helps restore firmness and elasticity over time, and uses soothing antioxidants to help protect against future damage.

What I personally liked about this cream is that spread easily yet had a certain thickness to it that was instantly absorbed into the eye area, and seemed to instantly tighten the skin. So what it says on the 'tin', right?

Eyliplex-2 Eye Lift and Circle Reducer Day and Night Gel, 10ml, £28.37

This is a UNISEX two-part eye system, which is designed to lift and tighten the eyes. One of the pots contains day gel that instantly zaps the eyes awake, while the other works overnight to repair and recharge the skin while you snooze off the day's excesses.

SELLING POINT: As well as employing two specific systems, it's made up of 124 INGREDIENTS, making it an enjoyable cocktail of eyebag-busting goodness. These include POLYLIFT, which is an aggressive tightening film former, and is used to stretch out the wrinkles.

PRODUCT IS EXCLUSIVE TO BOOTS
