Deus EX: Invisible war

Rating:
Publisher: Eidos

WHAT'S THE STORY? Pronounced 'Juice Ex' in the States and 'Day Of Sex' over here, the original cyber-thriller is considered by many chin-stroking gamers to be amongst the greatest PC titles ever made. As such, this sequel comfortably slots into the highly-anticipated category, hoping to gain a greater audience through a simultaneous Xbox release. Set 20 years after the first game, global conflict and terrorism are rife, and as trainee anti-terrorist agent Alex D, it's down to you to decide who to trust, be it a group of religious extremists or advocates of scientifically enhanced humans. The trademark Deus Ex paranoia and conspiracy are all present and correct, although the console release has led to an element of simplification; the game playing out more like an intelligent shooter than the role-playing experience of the original.

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING? Conspiracy-laden First-Person Shooter cum Role-Playing Game. And you can play as a man or a woman, your choice affecting the response of a gay bloke you meet in a bar.

PLAYS LIKE? A streamlined version of Deus Ex.

WORTH STAYING IN FOR? Certainly. Just remember: trust no one.
