The all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup finals history is Brazil’s Ronaldo, who scored a told of 15 goals over three tournaments in 1998, 2002 and 2006. He is one ahead of German striker Gerd Muller, who had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside in the 1974 final, as TV replays proved.

The most goals scored in a single tournament were 13 by France’s Just Fontaine in 1958, while Gary Lineker is England’s leading scorer with 10 goals in 1986 and 1990.
