Bye Bye Jack

24 cancelled!

It’s not yet been officially confirmed by Fox, but with many of the cast and crew commenting on the news via Twitter over the weekend, we think we can say this one’s a safe bet. For it’s been revealed that the current series of 24, its eighth, is to be its last.

The show, to be fair, has been on its last legs for a little while now, and speculation had been rising that Fox was going to pull the plug. Declining ratings and increased production costs weren’t helping, plus the show had long-since seemed to hit a narrative dead-end.

That said, just because there’s going to no 24 season nine, that doesn’t mean that the adventures of Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer are at an end. The actor has long been keen on taking 24 to the big screen, and Fox hired screenwriter Billy Ray earlier this year to pen a movie version of the show. Expect that to be fast-tracked.

The current, and final, season of 24 comes to an end in May.
