New BBC2 'comedy' Psychoville is a warped, dark beast of chilling giggles and hilarious horror. And on top of that, it's brilliant, too. In the first couple of episodes, we were introduced to an ex-pornstar dwarf with telekinetic powers, an abusive clown with arm implants, and a perverted mother-son combo of serial killer obsessives. Utter genius.
But its core comedy team of Steven Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have their credentials firmly steeped in the 'unnerving'. Before Psychoville came the superbly twisted League Of Gentlemen. A more 'gross out' affair than their latest mysterious ramblings, it mixed The Wicker Man, Hammer Horror and classic British comedy to belly-rumbling effect.
