Naim are a company synonymous with aural perfection. You
should know this. And if you don’t, you do now.
it is the everyman’s music box with the connoissuer’s twist
Being the sort of uncompromising sound wizards they are, housing
all this sonic perfection into one universal, graspable, houseable, radical unit has always been at
the back of their impeccably well sound-balanced minds. Until now…
Now they have released the NaimUniti, an all-in-one sound
solution for chaps with a sizeable penchant for earhole perfection, but without the 10
grand budget to properly and perfectly achieve it.
The Uniti is awesome. With Cd, FM/DAB, Internet radio,
MP3/iPod, Digital Audio Music Streams and USB; it is the everyman’s music box
with the connoissuer’s twist.
We have set it up in our office and test all our music upon it. And it never shirks. In fact, even as we speak it is nurturing the Platoon
soundtrack as if it is its first-born son. Adagio for Strings makes Daultrey cry anyway.
The NaimUniti convinced us to call him a proper counsellor and deal with it once and for all. Such was its persuasive sonic
clarity.
He's okay now. It was just an emotional day. We
think.
As well as engaging and embracing teary journalists, the NaimUniti:
1) loves Internet Radio. It offers the listener bangloads of
musical options from thousand of stations all in Naim-quality sound;
2) has a wealth of audio streaming capabilities. With its
onboard DAC hub, it becomes the ultimate audio source hub, talking in fluent
‘COME ONS!!’ with your computer, games console or television;
3) incorporates a front-panel USB port, which takes control of
USB sticks and suitable MP3 players, and relays content on the front-panel readout;
4) has a swing drawer and transport suspension which increase rotational
inertia i.e the CD playback is second-to-nobody;
5) its dreamy, yet blocky aesthetic doesn’t make you look like some kind of nuisance sonic pervert; more an eco-space, noise aficionado.
So, there you go. It might not be up there with SatNav,
iPods and SKY+ as the single greatest technological innovations of the last 20
years, but we really wouldn’t do without it now we’ve got it, it realy is that good.
[Wipes brow] Now please don’t put Platoon on again, Ben. It's making me cry now.
God, this job is hard...
