Open Season. Out Now
British Sea Power - Album of the Week

Rating:

WHAT'S THE DEAL? Brighton's post-Britpoppers declare chart war with anthemic second album.

TO BE HONEST: Their live show may resemble a GCSE theatre production of Dad's Army, but their music has more in common with a hug from a sixth form belle. This is quintessential English guitar pop with a suspiciously Liverpudlian edge. Well it would have if it were sung with scouse accents.

LISTEN OUT FOR: 'Be Gone'. Hooky. 'Please Stand Up'. Gorgeous.

LIKE THIS? Then also see Morrisey's Viva Hate, Shack's HMS Fable or anything by Echo & The Bunnymen.

FREEBIES: Grab yourself one of 5 absolutely free albums we have to give away. Just email your details to webmaster.maxim@dennis.co.uk and we'll enter you into the draw. Closing date: 12th April 2005
