As hip hop's odd couple - Andre 3000, the cross-dressing romantic and Big Boi, the street-smart hustler - Outkast have been pushing at the boundaries of music and dress-codes for ten years. Latest album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, effectively two solo albums stapled together, seemed to signal a split, but then Outkast are a pair with whom any concept can be tried out. As they put it, 'We like to take people into space with our experimental funk jam.'
Currently working on their sixth album, the duo's musical tastes just get stranger the more records they sell. Ask them about their current listening habits and you get a list that includes Genesis and - Big Boi's personal favourite - Kate Bush. 'She's a true artist. I'm going to try to hook up with her the next time I'm in England.' And that's the thing with Outkast, they'll try anything. How do you get away with it, Mr Boi? 'Cos at heart it's all about the funk, all about the FUNK, baby.'
With an Outkast film in 2004, a clothing line and a pit-bull breeding farm to oversee, is there try? 'Photography,' says Big Boi. 'I'd love to shoot for Maxim. Just send me those models.' Tell you what, we'll send Kate Bush. MR The Way You Move is out on 8 March. OutKast: The Videos is out on DVD on 22 March
