Data Romance
Meet the band...

Release Date: 13-07-2011

Maxim flung some questions in the general direction of Data Romance, and they flung 'em straight back, and included their new single 'The Deep', which was nice.

Meet Ajay Bhattacharyya and Amy Kirkpatrick, the crazy Canadians who make up Data Romance.

MAXIM: Your video for The Deep... That’s a bit weird innit. What’s the story with it? Where’d you come up with it?
AJAY: Alistair Legrand (the director) brought us the idea of having really dark and demented dancers. We liked the idea of hinting at something hip hop, but giving it a really cinematic and theatrical spin. I feel like the song kinda does that on its own anyway... It's also just a great excuse to showcase how mad talented Lil Buck and his crew are, as well as the insane make up by Will Lemon.

MAXIM: On the subject of weird, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen?
AJAY: the internet.
AMY: my brother forced me to watch a preview of The Human Centipede.

MAXIM: Who is the weird one out of you two?
AJAY: Me.
AMY: I highly doubt that. I recently replaced my TV with a bowl of sand.

MAXIM: Tell us how you guys met?
AMY: Jay and I met through a friend in high school. I used to go see Jay's band play all ages shows when I was 16. It was pretty much the only cool thing to do on the island at that age. He started drumming on a solo project I had, and we did shows here and there. About two years ago he started sending me instrumentals to songs he was writing at the time, I'd record vocals, and the rest is history. In a nutshell.

MAXIM: How would you describe your sound?
AJAY: Electronic. Cinematic. Personal.

MAXIM: When you’re not making music, what do you like to get up to?
AMY: I'm a beach bum on days off for sure, evenings is wine and records. But even during those times I'm working out lyrics usually.
AJAY: I'm never not making music. Also PS3 and cartoons.

MAXIM: Are you looking to come and play in the UK anytime soon? We wanna come see!
AMY: Yes!!! We cannot wait to get to the UK. We're hoping to make it out there either this winter or hopefully early next year. That's been one of our main goals all along. We both love to travel, and the UK is one place we haven't ventured yet. Soon!

MAXIM: Send us off with your favourite quote!
AJAY: "Be careful, cause there's always someone ready to step into your shoes and do your job better than you... do it."
AMY: "Accept the things you cannot change, change the things you can, and have the wisdom to know the difference."
