We're in Copenhagen at a rather large and amazingly decorated venue called Vega. We're the farthest we've been from the shire in a long time and we're feeling very discombobulated; Copenhagen is expensive, everyone is 18 feet tall and we're quite inebriated.
For some reason, there are lots of people sitting on the floor before the opening act, Morning Parade take to the stage, but they promptly stand to attention when the boys from Essex stroll out and pick up their instruments. It feels as though the crowd are somewhat unsure of what to make of these Englishmen at first, but that's not the case for very long as within moments they have the crowd eating from the palm of their hand.
The atmosphere is electrifying when the band kick into their second track, and things continue in this fashion throughout. Effortlessly flowing from track to track, the boys show the Danes what they're made of. The soaring guitars, thumping rhythm section (who were so tight we thought the drummer was a backing track) and haunting vocals make sure they won't soon be forgotten any time soon either. They sound destined for a much bigger stage and a massive crowd – we're sure it'll be happening quite soon too.
If the venue seemed busy for Morning Parade, baby we ain't seen nothin' yet, as people start literally falling out of the doors and back into the bar when headliners Veto start strutting their stuff. The band are amazing to watch, with all the band members quite clearly lost in the music, all the while managing to hit every note. All the songs are sung in English, which is a bit weird considering they're a Danish band, but it helps us to feel a little bit less foreign. Every single track is breath-taking, head-nodding, crazy-dancing stuff, with the definite highlight for us being when Veto exploded into the thudding techno of 'You Say Yes, I Say Yes'. It was an incredible sight to behold aside from the singers slightly dodgy dad-at-wedding style dancing, which was still oddly hypnotic. The band leave the stage after an epic 90-minute set, proving why they're such a hit with their home crowd.
Within hours we're back on the plane heading home. Thank you Copenhagen, it's been emotional.
