When Maxim met The View last year, the livewire Scots with ‘the same jeans on’ could speak only of their untold joy for alcohol. “We got proper smashed at the Mercury Awards,” blurted singer Kyle, before unleashing a burp that unsettled the floorboards. “I like Smirnoff Ice, ‘cos I can drink litres of it!” added drummer Steven.
Unsurprisingly, on their third album, Kyle pipes in an exaggeratedly highland vernacular: “we drink like the Irish”, while every one of its fine-time anthems fizzes around with the same vigour of a can of gassy lager that’s been hoofed around by a goat. Strangely, they recorded it sober (so it’s claimed), predominately because they drunkenly got lost on a boat during the making of their disappointing second album. As Alanis Morissette once warbled: “isn’t it ironic?”
