While many of Weller's previous nine solo albums could be described as 'z-z-z-z-zleepy', 'MIDDLE OF THE ROAD' and 'DADDY-ROCK', the (allegedly grumpy) 51-year-old MODFATHER has spun his Mini off the beaten track for the aptly named 'Wake Up The Nation', an album that's the musical equivalent to knackering yourself out on a rowing machine for 40-minutes.
Featuring cameos from The Jam bassman Bruce Foxton and a 70-something drums legend, album number 10 rifles energetically from Weller's trademark white-man soul to psychedlic experimentalism to rollicking rock 'n' roll and rowdy bursts of The Jam-y punk.
It's bold and memorable, and through sheer audacity and vigour alone, makes for his most radical outing yet. And possibly his best, too. Big words. Pretty big album.
