We'd be well peed off if we were in Blur. It seems that Damon Albarn is continuing to plough all his best musical ideas into his mob of cartoon hipsters, while his original Britpoppers loiter in indefinite hibernation. We were half-expecting this new Gorillaz album to be crap, but it so very isn't - presumably for the reason we've just highlighted.
Arguably the 'group's' most experimental release yet, it's like sticking your hand into a lucky dip bucket and pulling out a random instrument or mood for each track. The Fall's Mark E. Smith guest-stars on the bleepy, finger-clickin' 'Glitter Freeze', and that one's a single-in-waiting, while 'Some Kind Of Nature', which goes 'oh oh oh oh oh oh oh' like a stuck Ian Dury record and features Lou Reed, is ace.
*WIN WIN WIN!* We've got several copies of the new album to give away. For your chance to win one, simply tell us the name of Damon Albarn's famous Britpop group, and ping your answer over to chaps@maxim.co.uk, stating 'Gorillaz' in the subject head.
Winners will be picked at random. Entrants must be over 18 and live in the UK.
