*'ONE LIFE STAND', out now*
"This is a bit crazy isn't it?" some philistine remarked as the new Hot Chip erupted out of the office speakers in a fit of squirts, squeals and wispy vocals, swapping the CD over for the new Ocean Colour Scene album before 'One Life Stand' had even reached the fourth track.
Yet while there's a lot more wacky sound FX, suggesting the London geekzillas had spent the last few months stocking up on random electronic equipment from local branches of Cash Converters, tunefully, this is as much '80s feely-touchy pop, rave and disco as it is indie electronica, with synth lines so smooth they sound like someone's gone over them with a Philishave.
It's certainly more catchy than last outing 'Made In The Dark' and more poppy and dancey than 2006's superb 'The Warning'. You could almost slip on a pair of grey shorts and a cap, and start chucking out your 'best' school disco moves to it - if 'best school disco moves' actually exist...
