Love songs buried beneath brilliant dirty guitar. Best listened to with unwashed hair and your finest lumberjack shirt. With buttons missing

After teeny hints of Foo Fighters-isms on 2008's decent 'Beyond', the grizzled grungesters have spooned out a corker - even if it sounds like it was recorded in 1991. A bunch of delicious hooks swamped in thick-cut distortion spiralling all over the place, it cement-mixes sludge, epic guitar and uplifting ciggy-coated vocals into one happy smiley record.
Frontman Jay Mascis has often been touted as a croakier, next-generation Neil Young, and he's pretty much exactly that - only larger round the waist and even twiddlier on the guitar. Fourth track 'Plans' is a track for forgetting the fact your partner hasn't washed her hair for 12-weeks and giving her a big slobbery smooch, anyway. And really, really meaning it. Sweeeeeet!

We test all our albums on a NaimUniti stereo. If we were testing for sound quality, every album would get five stars. But we're good little journalists, so we can't. Check out more at www.naimaudio.com. They make good stuff, believe us.
