GREEN MAN FESTIVAL

When is it? 21-23 Aug

Where is it? Glanusk Park Estate, Brecon Beacons

Who's playing? Jarvis Cocker, Bon Iver, Four Tet, Animal Collective, Josie Long

What's the vibe? Uber cool, laid back and brilliant, this is one of the coolest festivals around for hippy-slanted music types who like Americana, folk and ace lo-fi indie. A genuine delight.

STANDON CALLING

When is it? 31 Jul-2 Aug

Where is it? Standon, Hertfordshire

Who's playing? Friendly Fires, The Aliens, Ladytron, Tony Chrsitie, Selfish Cunt

What's the vibe? Tiny but full of character, this eclectic space-themed festival is a hidden gem, with electronica and folk firing up an intergalatic storm.

KENDAL CALLING

When is it? 31 Jul-2 Aug

Where is it? Lowther Deer Park, Lake District

Who's playing? The Streets, Ash, The Zutons, Twisted Wheel, Howard Marks

What's the vibe? A decent mix of good bands, ace DJs, comedy, poetry and lounging in the setting of the Lake District's beautiful country park.

BESTIVAL

When is it? 11-13 Sept

Where is it? Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight

Who's playing? Kraftwerk, Massive Attack, Fleet Foxes, MGMT, Elbow

What's the vibe? Space-themed fancy dress spectacular where everyone gets mashed, trashed and lashed up to the best bands and DJs around. A right proper knees up.

When is it? 22-23 August

Where is it? Hylands Park, Chelmsford / Weston Park, Staffordshire

Who's playing? Oasis, Fatboy Slim, The Specials, Pete Doherty, MGMT

What's the vibe? The best open air indie disco you've ever been to. If you can elbow the excitable youths out the way, this star-studded festival will be the highlight of your summer.

HOP FARM FESTIVAL

When is it? 4-5 July

Where is it? Paddock Wood, Kent

Who's playing? Paul Weler, The Twang, Florence & the Machine, The Rifles, Noah and the Whale

What's the vibe? Rather ace, corporate-free festival packed with brilliant guitar bands, some fairground rides plus a chance to laugh at lame football in the band 6-a-side. A little known about gem of a festival.

LATITUDE

When is it? 16-19 July

Where is it? Henham Park, Southwold

Who's playing? Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Little Boots, Doves, Ladyhawke, Ed Byrne

What's the vibe? Garden party loveliness with loads of bands, comedians and inflatable things to keep young and old smiling like a bunch of happy baboons.

T IN THE PARK

When is it? 10-12 July

Where is it? Balado, Kinross-Shire

Who's playing? The Killers, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Nine Inch Nails, Glasvegas

What's the vibe? The Scottish equivalent of V, this 12-stage festival is big on booze, bands and other random bollocks. If you can be arsed to travel there, you'll chew your own face off with joy.

When is it? 10-12 July

Where is it? Punchestown Racecourse, Republic of Ireland

Who's playing? Snow Patrol, Razorlight, Lily Allen, Manic Street Preachers, Felix Da Housecat

What's the vibe? The Irish equivalent of Reading with Moroccan themed tents, beat poetry, and lots of good-natured jiggery that'll entertain you to the early hours.

SECRET GARDEN PARTY

When is it? 23-26 July

Where is it? Hungtingdon, Cambridgeshire

Who's playing? Fat Freddy's Drop, Jarvis Cocker, Rodrigo y Gabriella, The Holloways, Fight Like Apes

What's the vibe? Arty, idyllic, duck-filled festival for discerning musos and people who like to foot-tap, jiggle about and lark around in silly costumes.

THE BIG CHILL

When is it? 6-9 August

Where is it? Eastnor Castle, Malvern Hills, Hertfordshire

Who's playing? Lamb, Basement Jaxx, Emmy the Great, Mr Scruff, Noel Fielding, Dylan Moran

What's the vibe? Laid back, friendly and fun, where you can piss about playing croquet and swingball with your mates, and guzzle ice-cold ciders to cool ambient bands.

BLISSFIELDS

When is it? 3-5 July

Where is it? Bradley Farm, Hampshire

Who's playing? Super Furry Animals, Laura Marling, Thomas Tantrum, Mumford & Sons

What's the vibe? So intimate you can basically grab a tambourine and join the bands on stage. A place to check out loads of ace, oddly-named bands, and drink heartily among other liberal chaps.

What's the vibe? A raucous, lager-swilling, three-day band assault with acne-ridden teens and old rockers alike dribbling and dancing to Britain's rock elite

What's the vibe? Drug-filled, mud-caked carnage, this musical mecca has the best line-up for years and, sunshine permitting, will be an absolute stranger-shagging, disco-dancing belter.
