Bestival, Isle of Wight, 5-7 Sept Take the words best and festival and combine them…what do you end up with? Bestival! The oh so witty lot over on the Isle of Wight have cooked up a right treat with this years offering. Amy Wino stars with, perhaps the best exclusive act in all festivals this year. Glade, Berkshire, 18-20 July One of Europe's coolest underground dance music festivals originally began as part of the Glastonbury Festival, where it was known as THE Renegade dance music stage. Now in its fifth standalone year, it's cramming together a monstrous line-up, with headliners including Dubfire, Jeff Mills, Pendulum LIVE, James Holden, Frequency 7, Autechre, Utah Saints, Dub Pistols, Stanton Warriors, Daedelus and Plump DJs.

Ibiza Rocks with Sony Ericsson There's a new sound in Ibiza and it’s all about indie. This summer-long outdoor festival throws beats and bass out and embraces drums and guitars. Now in its fourth year, headliners include We Are Scientists, Wombats and Pendulum. Book yourself into the Ibiza Rocks Hotel and be on the doorstep of the afterparties.

RockNess, Scotland, 7-8 June And the award for best festival location goes to… Rockness. Set on the shores of Loch Ness these guys have attracted some of this years biggest names. Razorlight, Calvin Harris and Underworld all confirmed, but the real star of the show could well be Nessie herself. Wellies advised, this one'll be a washout.

The Big Chill, Herefordshire, 1-3 Aug Located in the beautiful Malvern Hills in Herefordshire this is a distinctly eclectic festival. The line up this year boasts acts such as Mr. Scruff, Fat Freddy's Drop and popular comedy act The Mighty Boosh. The Big Chill also offers you the chance to participate with the ŒOpen Dex¹ competition, giving wannabe DJs a chance to hit the big time!

Isle of Wight Festival 13-15th June Don’t let the trek to get here put you off – the line up over this 3 dayer is full of festival goodness: Police, N.E.R.D and Kooks all headline, but our eyes will be on the main stage come Saturday night when perennial nutter Johnny Rotten and his Sex Pistols take to the stage. Catch a ferry from Portsmouth, or just chance getting eaten by sharks and swim over.

Glastonbury, Somerset, 27-29 June Ah Glasto! This favorite has gone for a different approach this year with Jay Z headlining. If you want to be one of the 177,000 revellers come late June then head over to Glastonbury registration site armed with a passport photo and a debit card. Hard Rock Calling, Hyde Park, 28-29 June Set on the same weekend as Glasto and one of two festivals set in the grounds of London's Hyde Park this year, it has a lot to do to beat the competition. With headliners Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow and The Police, Hard Rock it ain't, but if you fancy a weekend out in the Big Smoke with all the trimmings of a music festival this one could be for you.

Mighty Boosh Festival, Kent, 5 July Comedy is the new rock n roll! TV duo Noel and Julian have announced the UK’s first ever comedy festival. Set one day before the Hop Farm Festival proper, it could be worth making the trip down to Kent early to catch what is guaranteed to be the funniest thing you will see all year. Plus – a few pints down your neck will make the not-so-funny warm up acts seem bloody hilarious.

Hop Farm Festival, Kent, 6 July This no nonsense festival has concentrated on getting the basics right – cheap, good bands, great location. One of the few festivals to do away with VIP areas so everyone has the same experience. Watch Neil Young, Primal Scream and Supergrass in the Kent countryside. Or just get hammered.

O2 Wireless Festival, Hyde Park, 3-6 July Mammoth festival over 4 days and 5 arenas. Jay Z pops up here again on the first day, nicely warming up for performances from Morrissey, Fat Boy Slim and Counting Crows across the weekend. No camping though, so book a swish room and whisk the missus away for a dirty weekend.

Roskilde Festival, Denmark, 3-6 July Playing host to the likes of Bob Marley and Radiohead since it's start in 1971, Roskilde establishes itself as the largest North European Festival. This year sees the return of our depressant of choice Radiohead, Kings Of Leon, Adele, Duffy and the height of the Hip Hop hierarchy, Jay-Z.

Oxegen, Rep. Ireland, 11-13 July A short ferry trip across to the Emerald Isle and before you know it you'll be rocking out to the likes of Rage Against The Machine, R.E.M, and our favourite ginger - Kate Nash. This festival is definitely worth a visit.

T in the Park, Scotland, 11-13 July This festival has a line up that should define your record collection. With a controversial comeback for the Verve, the countries favourite beehive; Amy Winehouse and those beautifully sugary babes, Scotland may well be your local festival of choice this year.

Latitude, Suffolk, 17-20 July Music, art, comedy fun and frolics. Sound like your kind of festival? Then head to Latitude. Heavy hitters Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros and Interpol lead the way here, but it's the comedy arena that won most plaudits last time around. With the addition of literary and poetry arenas, this distinctly grown up festival is perfect to take your old man along to.

Benicassim, Spain, 17-20 July Dubbed as "Glasto Del Solí", Benicassim is so sizzling right now you will be left feeling hotter than a pissed up clubber who fell asleep around the pool. Confirmed headliners include Babyshambles and Jose Gonzalez. The sounds at this sunshine scorcher of a festival are sure to attract flocks of sexy senoritas so you might want to leave your pasty princess at base camp.

Dour, Belgium, 17- 20 July A line up that's so sweet it will make those duty-free Belgian chocolates taste like the sole of your flip flops. Quoted as being a 'festival with a conscience', Dour merges the musical talents of Ice Cube through to indie rockers The Enemy, covering pretty much every genre in between. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the festival so expect the Belgians to go all out on this one.

Creamfields, Cheshire, Aug 23-24
Now in its tenth year, Creamfields aims to cement itself as the crown jewel of dance festivals. This year it gets even bigger with a skate park and fairground being tacked on to the impeccable lineup of regulars Fatboy Slim and Tiesto with eyebrow-raisers Kasabian and Gossip thrown into the mix.

Get Loaded in the Park, Clapham Common, 24 Aug If you don't fancy Reading weekend this year head down to Clapham Common for Get Loaded. Tickets are cheap as chips and the sun should be shining all day long. Grab an ice cold pint and rock out to the likes of Supergass, Iggy & The Stooges and Gossip while checking out the talent.

Carling Weekend Reading, 22-24 Aug August Bank Holiday sees this mammoth festival return. This year will not disappoint with Rage against the Machine, Killers and Metallica all headlining. Be sure to catch Jack Black's band Tenacious D on the final day for an injection of rock and comedy.

Retro Fest, 30–31 Aug These young whippersnappers' wouldn't be able to get into a pair of skinnies never mind a mosh pit, if it wasn't for the seasoned old timer's who refuse to hang up the 'axe'. Retro Fest pays homage to that mentality with acts such as 10cc, the Bangles and Kim Wilde, Boy George and erm.. Bucks Fizz. Add to this the organisers trump card - the retro film tent, reminiscing with classics such as 'Footloose' and 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.
