What's it about? The oldest horror premise in the book, 'Don't go into the woods', stretched out to feature length. It's 1897 in a Pennsylvania village on the edge of a spooky forest, and people keep disappearing. Why? Goblins, probably.
Who's in it? Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody, but mainly Joaquin Phoenix as Sigourney's son, a hothead who breaks the rule that no one ever goes into the woods, and stirs up trouble - both in the shrubbery and among the townfolk. Also stars sexy Bryce Howard (daughter of Ron) as his love interest.
Best Scene? We couldn't possibly reveal - this thing's wrapped tighter than a gnat's chuff. Imagine the uproar if we'd revealed Bruce Willis was a ghost in The Sixth Sense, or that Unbreakable was shit.
To be honest: M. Night Shyamalan's got a lot to prove since hitting a home run on The Sixth Sense and then churning out pseudo-meaningful crap. But the atmospherics in The Village - scary mist and dripping silences - make it a gothic classic before you see any ghoulies. Sit back and enjoy the riding hood.
