Once Upon A Time In Mexico Rating: Starring: Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Salma UK Certificate: 18
Bored with Robert Rodriguez's children's movies? Well, put the spectre of the Spy Kids films behind you, 'cos the man is back doing what he does best: a ballsy, tongue-in-cheek action flick crammed with explosions, gun battles and full-on Latino style.
Antonio Banderas (with Salma Hayek's Mexican maiden in tow) returns as El Mariachi, the black-clad musician turned gunslinger of Desperado. This time he's been hired by edgy CIA agent Johnny Depp to stop the evil schemes of drug lord Willem Defoe. But is Depp really to be trusted?
It's a bumpy ride at times, but when it kicks into gear for the action sequences the film's engine really roars. Banderas is great as the sulky killing machine, but Depp's the one to watch. Twitchy, deceitful and deadly, he's almost as good here as he is in Pirates Of The Caribbean. But with machine guns.
