Don't be put off by the BBC-drama-department trappings - Douglas McGrath has pruned and shaped Charles Dickens sprawling potboiler down into a snappy period road movie as we follow clean-cut hero Nickleby (Charlie Hunnam) and sidekick Smike (Jamie Bell) across country on their rambling mission to reunite nick with his family. Packed with a who's who of Brit thesping talent (Timothy Spall, Juliet Stevenson, Edward Fox, Jim Broadbent and Alan Cumming to name just a few), it's quirky, chirpy stuff.
