A New Zealand coming-of-age drama about ancient tribal values versus modern life doesn't sound like the best of popcorn munching experiences, but give Niki Caro's movie a try. Beautiful to look at and genuinely heartwarming, the story of a young girl's attempt to convince her hide-bound granddad that being a girl shouldn't stop her from becoming tribal chief is a simply lovely film.
