Phone Booth Rating: Starring: Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland, Forest Whitaker, UK Certificate: 18
In the modern world where everyone from babies to OAPs is busy calling, texting and SMSing on their mobiles, it is nice to see the old-fashioned call box being used for something other than a drunk's toilet. In Joel Schumacher's astonishing new psychological thriller, all the action centres on one of the few remaining phone booth's in New York City as Stu Shepard (Farrell) makes the fateful mistake of stopping off to make a call to the girl he is trying to screw.
You see Stu is a nasty piece of work. Not only is he trying to cheat on his wife, he also uses and abuses everyone he knows to get what he wants. Unfortunately for him, someone has been watching and now that someone - who happens to have a high-powered rifle - wants Stuart to come clean and atone for his sins.
In a masterful tale, Farrell is brilliant as his cocksure character is systematically stripped of his arrogance and dishonesty as his tormentor demands he admit all his faults and failings in front of the TV audience witnessing the one-man siege in Times Square. On the other end of the phone, Kiefer Sutherland is masterful and malevolent as he cruelly cajoles his victim into submission. Phone Booth is original, outstanding and, trust us, will make you get a new mobile.
