Unless you've been living in The Priory for the last 10 years, you'll know the plot. This story has been told a thousand times. A disadvantaged young man, growing up on the wrong side of town, loses his girl, his job and his dignity. Naturally, things go from bad to worse, but through it all, the young man triumphs. (And if you've seen either Rocky or The Karate Kid you'd know this already.)
He may be a multi-millionaire and one of the most famous men on the planet but Mr Mathers manages to make Jimmy 'Rabbit' Smith Jr totally believable as the talented but troubled rapper. Basinger becomes pure white trailer trash and the beautiful Murphy smoulders competently as the sexy temptress. Plus you get a pounding soundtrack, tense rap battles and a knee-trembling sex scene for your money. What more could you ask for?
